Mr. Schlein was an advisor to the group chairman of HSBC Holdings on Israel. Prior to that, he served as the chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Republic New York Corporation and Republic National Bank of New York.
Mr. Schlein joined Republic National Bank of New York as a vice president in 1976. Over the succeeding 24 years, Mr. Schlein served as executive vice president, chief operating officer and president of Republic National Bank of New York. In 1998, Mr. Schlein was designated chairman and chief executive officer of the bank and the corporation. Prior to Mr. Schlein’s tenure with Republic, he spent six years with KPMG Peat Marwick, in its audit department. Mr. Schlein received his Bachelor of Business Administration with honors from Baruch College of the City University of New York and his Master of Business Administration from the Graduate School of Baruch College.
Mr. Schlein is a Certified Public Accountant in New York. He is a member of both the American Institute of CPA’s and of the New York State Society of CPA’s. His additional professional memberships have included the Economic Club of New York, the Bankers Roundtable, and the New York Commodity Exchange, Inc. (COMEX). Mr. Schlein is also trustee of the Baruch College Fund, a member of its Business Advisory Council, and has served on its Office of the Board Chair and its Executive Committee. |
